Roster Role: 4pm Reader

To publicly read the God's word in an engaging, helpful and appropriate way.

Duties

  • Prepare well beforehand - make sure NIV2011 is used
  • Encourage people to follow along:
    • First in their own bibles
    • Second on the screen

Checklist

  • Arrive at 340pm for the pre service prayer at 345pm
  • Take note of the service order on the run sheet
  • Come to the stage to read when the MC indicates it's time

Notes​

  • We want to give the public reading of the scriptures it's due weight and authority - it's unhelpful to think about it like the entree to the sermon main course.
  • Knowing the passage well is key to reading it with the appropriate cadence and tone.
    • Don't rush - but don't plod either. Leave pauses where appropriate but don't leave us wondering if you've finished early :)
    • Seek to match the tone of the narrative and dialogue.
